I agree. Took me the entire length of the video, but yeah, I can see how this can be the best.

Hot take: I don’t think Queen is that good. I feel like there stuff is overrated and over played. I know most don’t share my view point, but I really don’t like their stuff.

Back in the 90's I went to a Guns ‘ n Roses concert, and Brian May’s band opened for them. Well, they attempted to anyway. They literally got boo’d off of the stage, and we sat there in relative silence for an hour until Axl got his shit together.

I recall watching that set live on the tele back in the day...it made me and my youthful mates appreciate that Queen wasn’t quite the uncool heritage act that we thought them to be at the time. However, the last 30 odd years haven’t been kind...and I’ve experienced similarly impressive gigs from a number of other acts since.
Ultimately, this was a set from a group that had nothing to lose and everything to play for... except a pay cheque. And they grabbed that opportunity with every hand they had... unlike most everyone else at that gif.

And this, kids, is what a good hot take is like. Take note, everyone else who has hot takes.
(Also maybe it’s just my exposure or the fact that I’m a peasant who isn’t as well-versed as someone who is , but I don’t think Queen is as bad as some of its detractors think it is. I can see how people would rate them high on the list, and I like a whole bunch of their songs enough to warrant plays whenever I feel like amping myself up if drum - n- bass EDM isn’t cutting it. )

OK now you gotta give me examples.

I mean, preference is preference, but they’ve got 25 #1 hits... So, lots of people liked them and still like the music, and they get played a lot because people like their stuff. One of their songs is responsible for the best commercials of all time:

Preference is preference and I don’t like their stuff. I know a lot of people do, but I don’t enjoy their stuff.

Yup, and was voted as such by a number of artists and industry people.

The best part? They’re actually playing/singing live and sound great. Call me jaded, but I suspect most “live” concerts these days have plenty of canned music/singing.

This one comes to mind...

Midnight Oil at Goat Island is what is.
After that, there was a gig or two from Hunters and Collecte rs. And another with Weddings, Parties Anything. V Spy V Spy was another. There’s probably a couple of live gig videos from each act hanging around on You tube.
After that or since then...there was a Dirty Three gig that made a hell of an impression.

Queen wasn’t a staple in my childhood household like Zep, Sabbath, or the Beatles, and I’m not sure why. Maybe it was that they were just a little too over the top for my parents, who are also slightly homophobic. No, I’m not joking, I seriously think that tainted Queen for them. I think Queen is amazing and had more versatility than any other rock band of the era.

This concert is definitely up there, but it’s impossible to dethrone my favourite rock live performance . Still, this was an awesome moment in history.

If you enjoyed Queen’s performance in that video, do yourself a favor and check out this DVD sometime:

It is an excellent capture of the band at their prime, and demonstrates what a tremendous live act they could be. The opening energy is fantastic.
